The Edgy Warrior - a Free Online Love Story by Sky Taylor - Page 2

Was I ever in love with Dina? I dunno. Never felt anything special - no bells and whistles, no fireworks going off in my head, no rainbow unicorns and dolphins dancing in the clouds. Perhaps I was merely impaled by her beauty. Dark eyes, gorgeous flawless tanned skin, generous red lips, short black hair and legs that trailed straight to heaven - unfortunately in a physical rather than a romantic way. Dina wasn‘t interested in making love, rather making war. The one time we’d pursued a private romantic encounter it had turned out to be the most uncomfortable, biggest disaster of my life.

And cranky - Dina was the definition of cranky when she didn’t get her way. With Dina, it was like the age-old saying, ‘My way or the highway’.

“Dina, please calm yourself,” I had advised after she'd collected the box of tissues, but that had only served to anger her further.

For gosh sake’s - we had both decided to break off the ‘going nowhere’ relationship a week before I’d been hired at Grant Enterprises. Or had she conveniently forgotten that conversation?

“Don’t tell me what to do!” she had yelled into the phone - so loudly that I had to hold the receiver from my ear as my eyes continued to search for a clock, although I was certain I wouldn’t be able to see the numbers as I was still struggling to focus amid the weak glare of the bedside table lamp. Nonetheless, it was at this moment that the fuzzy four a.m. blurred into view.

“I want you back - it was a mistake on your part. You should have never left me,” Dina was telling me, still bawling - her deep voice jerking in the process. Unfortunately she had continued, “My career is here but I‘ll have no issue in relocating. I-I surrender. It’s time we stepped-up to another level in our relationship. I want to move in with you-”

“It’s over, Dina,” I had bolted out, wanting to end the uncomfortable conversation as quickly as possible. I knew that if I didn’t make harmony with Mister Sandman that my first day on the job was going to be quite miserable. Toughy-t-bone that Dina didn’t care.

There had been a long pause gyrate across the wires, then Dina had switched from tears to tongue-lashing. “Well then. I don’t guess that I mean anything to you, Dave. All of this plundering about was simply your ploy to get what you wanted. Me in the sack for one night. And once you did, you strutted off to Never-Never Land, leaving me behind and-and your baby.”

“What?” I had squeaked, Dina making zero sense at this point. Pregnant? Was she informing me that she was pregnant? At four in the morning? Yes, I believed that she was - both then and now.
