Stories at Trinity Moon Saddle Tramp - (47 pages) Her smile instantly died as she spied the pair of red panties blowing in the summer breeze from the clothesline next to the house. Calories, Carbs or Fat Grams?Diets here - diets there - diets everywhere these days. One of the most popular diets touts counting carb grams for weight loss while a few decades ago, there was a popular fad diet where the dieter only needed to keep a lid on fat grams in order to achieve weight loss success. Although both methods can help an individual achieve weight loss, when everything is said and done - the body recognizes and uses calories to determine weight. Simply put, when we consume more calories (energy) than the body requires to sustain its current weight, the excess energy (calories) is stored in the fat cells - even if those excess calories are derived from an innocent-looking carrot. Oddly enough, when it comes to processing calories the body doesn't pause and say, "Hey, these calories are from a donut so they will get stored in the fat cells - while the calories from the carrot will be burned." Sad but so - no matter what food or beverage that we consume after our body has reached that magic number for the day, the excess energy gets stored in the fat cells. To further complicate matters, that magic number of calories per day changes from day-to-day and is impacted by the following: - current weight and body composition, including muscle mass and frame size - activity level - age - gender - ethnicity An ideal recipe for weight loss is to monitor all three - calorie intake, carb choices and fat intake. Opt for complex carbs over simple carbs, keep saturated fats to a minimum and most importantly, keep your recommended calorie intake on track. |
