Hours later, Josie stirred to a new day. She detected faint calls in the distance which warned of an enemy coming into camp. Bolting up, her blue eyes seized Diamond's lazy form. He had befriended a bottle of tea colored tequila and was slowly gazing into the distance like a calm Grecian statue. On the other hand, Josie's heart was jumping out of her body! Who was coming? Kent? Simon? Diamond caught a movement from Mario who was posted on the escarpment. "So, your little weasel Martel has arrived,"he told her, glaring out into the steamy open terrain, the bottle of tequila wedged tight in his hands. So much for him surrendering the spirits, she silently mocked amid her heightened state. Nonetheless, there wasn't time to think about Diamond. She jerked her head around to share his view, her breath coming in light pants as she looked beyond with him. She had been right about Kent, knowing that he would come to her rescue! Her temper flared as she heard Diamond drawl, "And he looks much worse in the flesh than on film, like some damn cabana boy. I was right, Josie. Martel's no man. If not for his white pants, he would blend in nicely with the crawling creatures of Mexico." Josie eyed him, managing to take her glance off her approaching hero for a short moment. "You best prepare to die, Mr. Faregate. Like the worm in the bottom of your bottle,"she tacked on more pointedly, her head nodding toward his hand. She didn't stay to read his reaction, rather went running in long strides to meet Kent. As their bodies collided, he engulfed her in wet, limp arms and Josie suddenly remembered the strength harbored within Diamond. There would be no victory in battle for her dearly betrothed - for Diamond would slay Kent in one swift blow, like a giant and a fly.
