Diamond gazed up at her, then stood, automatically towering over her.

He placed his hands on lean hips and drawled, "I was preparing the fire for your benefit, Josie. I thought you sounded cold....as usual."

She avoided his disturbing gaze and focused on the orange sun, his words taking her by surprise. Salvaging her raw spirit, she grazed him with, "Well, I'm not. My skin feels on fire. I'm sure my fever must be at least 100."

He was suddenly beside her, his large hand sanding over her forehead.

"You don't have a fever,"he informed stiffly.

Josie stood in mild shock as both hands now continued to move over her, examining her like a doctor would have done.

Quickly, she stabilized and shoved him from her with effort. She didn't like him touching her. Diamond Faregate was dirty in both body and mind.

"I don't need your help! I need a real doctor. There is bound to be one in Siesta Villa-"

Diamond's gaze lingered on her face for a moment, then he mocked her with a short laugh before turning back to the fire.

"You don't need a doctor, Josie,"he told her in a superior tone, one that she had grown used to. "Now that the morning sun has flooded your face, I see what your problem is. You're sunburned, my dear. I will have Roberto move you closer to the escarpment, into the shadows of the sun."
