She tightened her mouth, her eyes soaring over the mountains in the distance beyond the village. "I don't care about the landscape, Simon," she informed curtly. "I only want a clean soft bed for the night and to return home, to Kent, come morning - just as you promised." There was a sudden crash and Josie caught sight of a large Mexican flying out of the cantina doors. The massive senorita appeared and spat out something incoherent in her Spanish tongue, then tossed the large black cockroach onto his chest. Josie swallowed hard as the roach ran up the length of the man's bludgeoned face, her brother seeming unfazed by the scene. Simon mounted his burro then nudged him, sending him slowly along the way. Josie followed, curious to their direction and immediately inquired from behind the tall bobbing form, "Where are we going? Surely there must be some place suitable for the night right here - in the village." His voice rode to her on the wind, deep and clear. "The woman at the cantina, she told me where I can find Faregate. We'll stay at his place for the night, then head back come morning. It looks like the trip wasn't wasted after all." Josie tended to disagree but held her tongue. Simon was aware of how furious she was with him. There was no need to grind it in. Besides, it would be all over come morning. By this time tomorrow, she would be with Kent, safely lodged within his loving embrace.
