Roberto stood without haste and pleaded, "Let me handle this, Senor. Roberto seemed undecided and finally sent her a sympathetic glance, then unwilling stalked away, obviously dissatisfied with his orders from the boss. Josie raked back the blanket which was most unwanted now, her clothes soaked with sweat. She stood, enduring the gawking gaze that Diamond sent over her and suddenly, she shivered as the hot wind washed over her wet outfit. Diamond applied a sardonic twist to his lips, mistaking her gesture for fear. But he was wrong. At least half-wrong. She wasn't as frightened of him now as she had been last night. She still hated him, though. And he still smelled of soured whiskey - just like the man who had led Simon and her to the campsite. "Where is Simon?" she demanded tightly, raking back her silvery mass of hair that Diamond was studying for the moment. And she didn't like that either.
