Well, enough reminiscing. Time to concentrate on his future going forward. At thirty-five he’d sown his wild oats years ago. Relationships without love equaled relationships without substance - relationships that rarely lasted over a handful of weeks or months at best.
Jay desired a companion - but something more than a lover. He needed someone to share his success with, as well as someone who would be there to support him amid times of failure. And he wanted to reciprocate - he needed that. Vivian could indeed fit into his life quite nicely - or so he assumed. They had only met a handful of times, but he felt such a strong connection.

Tired of wasting valuable brain cells on the salad greens, he turned his attention to his dog.
“Rex, I trust that you’ll be on your best behavior this evening,” he tossed out to the golden retriever who was too lazy to lift his head for acknowledgement.
But of course Rex would be good. The only thing that excited him these days was dinner - and of course, treats. Maybe another dog might help in stimulating him - a female, although Rex had been snipped at the vet’s many years ago. Even so, look what a female was doing to him, he went on to justify.
The door chimes suddenly captured his attention and he whirled around and headed excitedly to the door. She was early - and that was just fine with him.
“Vivian!” he blurted out, the wide smile on his handsome face obliterated as a thin woman and a little girl came into view. The wonderful scent of fresh baked cookies hit him and it was at this point that he noted that the little girl was holding a small wicker basket with a handle, the rim of the basket covered with a blue-checkered cloth.
Seized briefly with embarrassment, Kay hesitated before proceeding in a light tone, “Obviously you’re expecting a guest. We don’t want to intrude - just wanted to welcome you to the neighborhood.”
There. She’d managed that part…..but could she possibly get him to honor her request?
