Cie remained silent a moment then eased out, “Very interesting, your little Beauty and the Beast fairytale.”

Paige stiffened at her sister’s mocking laugh then tensed even more as Cie inquired, "What is his name?”

“What?”

“His name, Paige.  You have intrigued me.”

Paige scowled disapprovingly at her then unwillingly supplied, “Stone, Stone Kiley.  The name suits him, don’t you think?  A name to match his stone-hard heart.”  She paused, her eyes searching her sister thoughtfully.  Grimacing, she demanded, “Why?  My God, you really are intrigued!  You aren’t planning on keeping me on pins and needles all summer, are you?”

Cie giggled then teased, “Remember, you are the one intrigued by foreigners, dear.”

“Pooh.  Nonetheless, Master Kiley is an American,” Paige drawled in a mocking tone, going to take another sip of the tea and finding none.  Cie stifled another giggle as Paige swiftly recovered; my, she had always been so good at recovering.  “Oh look!  It is Hollace and none too soon!”

Cie rose, seeing Hollace enter the circled driveway in the distance, the stranger and her sister momentarily forgotten.

“Hollace!” she called out, rushing to greet him.  Through her moment of unveiled joy she heard her sister faintly call out, “It is time for Cookie’s bed and bath!  Tell Hollace to entertain you a spell and I will join the two of you later in the red room!”

“Yes, I will tell him!”

Her steps hastened as she neared Hollace who had not yet seen her for the stranger at the fence had herald his attention.  But when she was approximately twenty feet from him she stopped in the way and called out his name, her lips etched with a delightful smile.

Her soft voice drew the attention of both men and suddenly Hollace was there, dousing her with a liberal kiss on the lips.  

He held her from him, took a hard steady look at her, his dark brown eyes mirroring adoration. “A year and a day and you’ve not changed an ounce!” he laughed, his finger touching the end of her tiny upturned nose.

His voice was deep and heavily accented; no one could mistake his English origin.

Cie drifted a laugh through the sudden silence then informed, “I have missed you dearly, Hollace.  But we have all summer to catch up, don’t we?”

“We do at that!” he echoed.  “And I intend to make full use of it!”

He drew her with him to the fence, addressing the stranger on the black horse.  Hollace’s voice seemed far away as he introduced her to him, Cie’s smile dying instantly as she gazed into the harsh marred face, concealed by half a mask fashioned out of black leather.

Her eyes connected with his and instinctively he drew a hand to the mask, boring a vengeful stance into her face, through the mask, as if he despised her.  Hollace seemed blinded to the tense situation and introduced, “Stone Kiley, my delightful sister-in-law, Cie Chantel.”
