Chapter Five - Page 40 “Yes, I intend to fulfill the agreement, but must you remind me?” Judy snapped in her heavily accented English clip, seeming enraged that the thought had been dangled before her. “Once the deed has been done I shall leave with no regrets, and all the richer for it.” Her companion gasped again. “How – how could you ever allow him to touch you? He's…hideous. And you could just leave your child – like…like that?” “My poor dear, one can always have more children but one cannot always have more money. I am at my peak and I intend to take every advantage of it,” Judy continued, her voice harsh and cruel. “Stone Kiley is having the paperwork drawn up as we speak. Everything will soon be legal and binding. But don’t fret, my precious friend,” Judy continued, patting her friend’s hand again, an obvious personal gesture. “If it is any consolation to you, please know that I intend to make my short stay at Ten Oaks a living hell for Stone Kiley. Perhaps I will be released without having to produce that dastardly little heir that he desires so much!” She laughed, then cruelly continued, "Perhaps money cannot buy everything.” Cie grabbed her purse and left, not wanting to hear another word of the cruel and indecent conversation. Her feelings for Stone had suddenly changed again. No wonder the man was so heartless, so unrelenting! When she arrived at Melrose Castle there was no sign of either Paige or Hollace. Books met her in the hallway and after a brief exchange of words, Cie directed her steps towards the study. Locating Stone’s number from Hollace’s rolodex she dialed out and Mulligan answered. “Mulligan, I am sorry to bother you, but is Mr. Kiley available?” This was crazy; her heart was beating faster than a hummingbird’s wings. Judy Harper was a child of Satan! A – a vampire bat! A-a witch with claws, a laugh and a beak to match!
“What a delight to hear from you, dear lady,” Mulligan eased out, his tone sincere. "One moment and I will transfer you to the library,” he told her. A few seconds later, Stone’s deep voice coolly greeted her. “Kiley here.” Cie needed to be as personable as possible, so she took the liberty of addressing him on a first-name basis. “Hello, Stone. Cie Chantel,” she began, trying to quarter her uncertainty. “Ms. Chantel – ” “Please, Cie,” she requested as the line went completely dead. She almost asked him if he was still on the line, then he suddenly spoke again.
