Chapter Three - Page 24 Cie rose to the bright new day, showered and dressed in a white and yellow jumper, then joined Hollace at the round table with the umbrella by the pool. The day was again hot and humid and she supposed there were many more of the same in the days ahead. Hollace was dressed in business attire and was taking in his mid-morning cup of hot tea, Cie unable to phantom such heat amid the tropical like setting. She helped herself to a bowl of the fresh fruit that Books had placed out. It looked fresh and very appetizing. Although there had been food enough for a kingdom at the party last evening Cie had forgone eating, too nervous due to the occasion and her sister’s obvious pandering. Then again, Stone had also sent her stomach reeling. “Where is that matchmaking sister of mine?” she asked in a mocking tone as she settled in beside Hollace at the table. “That was quite brilliant of her, shoving a fellow photographer off on me.” Hollace delivered a sympathetic glance then patted her free hand. “My dear Cie. Paige can be quite shallow when it comes to romance. But don’t be too harsh on her, darling. She is probably concerned about you being without much company this summer. With me at the office all day, and Paige and Cookie on their roundabouts, we would not want you to feel deserted. And speaking of the two of them, Paige has taken Cookie for her music lessons and shan't be back until late this afternoon.”
Cie smiled at him warmly then confided, “Actually, I am looking forward to a sedate summer. It will give me time to rest and pace myself on my photography for my book. In fact, I hadn’t realized how tired I was, and the trip over has only added to the fact. Rest assured, I would be perfectly content to lounge during the next few days. In addition, there are tons of shots that I would like to take of the gardens; at least of the three that I saw. I cannot wait to tour the others.” She felt confused as Hollace’s handsome face mirrored disappointment. Immediately, she plied, “What is wrong, darling? Have I said something ignorant? I can be very good at that - ” “No, no,” he assured, shaking his head, his crop of brown hair damp from either the humidity or his morning shower. “I am the ignorant one, pet. Without thinking I had planned to ask you to run a small errand for me. I should have realized you would be exhausted, especially after the party.” “The party was wonderful!” she blurted out, discarding the red strawberry that she had delicately poised on her spoon. Now she fretted that she had sounded ungrateful. "About this errand, Hollace - "
