Catamaran, a short love story by Sky Taylor - Page 1 Dusk....night was imminent, the icy air threaded with the howl of Old Man Winter, the darkness arriving much too swiftly for Andrew's preference. Through the dusk, his blue eyes fastened onto the plush auto parked a few feet from him, immediate recognition settling in. Al, the butler from Redrock Manor had arrived to collect an ancient, severely spoiled poodle owned by the richest good lady in the county. Never had Andrew known a more deserving, kinder person than Lady Jane. Unless.....it were Cassy. Cassy. Must be going on five years that she had worked at the pet shop, and one would be pressed to locate a finer groomer. The young lady had a way with animals, dogs in particular. They appeared to immediately take to her - from the most persnickety to the most vicious of the pack. If only she were closer to his own age, he continued in thought, although there had been times in Cassy's Unlike the majority of females he came in contact with, she was unaware of his personal level of success as an attorney, although these days he was more content in assisting the poor with legal advice than taking on new cases. In fact, he'd grown so weary of all the game playing associated with females of his past that he had given up on true love years ago. He had yet to meet a woman who preferred him over money. Andrew drew his overcoat together and straightened as he prepared to enter the pet shop, deciding that his reactive thoughts stemmed from the fact that today was his fortieth birthday, another that he would again be 'celebrating' alone. Well, not exactly alone as there was his beloved companion to consider - Vic, a majestic.....Chihuahua. And yes, he had taken an unfair share of jokes, particularly from guy-pals over the tiny shrimp of a dog. While Vic might not be considered by most as a man-dog, he had been there through thick and thin. Didn't take much to satisfy Vic; food to eat, a place to rest, and the assurance of being loved. So....he would collect his beloved pooch, spending as much time as possible without looking like an idiot, drooling over Cassy - himself, not Vic.
