Lily couldn’t help to look up and take a gander as she was over-curious as to Guy’s response. She giggled to herself as he slung back his dark head as if someone had just slapped him - obviously displeased over the uncomfortable conversation with Betsy. And she knew exactly the type of portrait posing that Besty was requesting.
Uncomfortable? Oh yes, she verified as she continued to study the handsome face.
Wonder what his story was, she continued to speculate. He must be close to forty - about her own age. She knew a little about him - that he was a confirmed bachelor, that he was sharing his home with his ageing father, and that he was a great artist.
Guy also appeared very polite, very kind - and she knew he had great patience in listening to his conversation with flirty Betsy.
Betsy was rambling now and he appeared lost in her words, his gaze transfixed somewhere in the great distance as he placed his focus to one side of her head.
Lily decided to return her focus to her daisy planting, but her attention was suddenly captured by the elderly gentleman stumbling from Guy’s house - his father John, she instantly presumed. He was holding his throat and his coloring was blue-tinged.
