This was the first Saturday that she’d had off in months, too - finally a chance to do a bit of work in her flower beds. And the garden center had sold her a beautiful batch of daisies.
She stabbed the spade into the rich soil, then widened her eyes as Betsy assured Guy, “I have such a hot little bod and I can‘t wait to see it on canvas. In fact, it’s so hot that I make my own self hot.”
Then in a louder tone, she called out to the petrified Lily, “Doctor Lily! Isn’t that so? My body is in very good shape, right? You confirmed such at my last physical.”
Lily did a tiny half-turn of her head, deciding not to focus fully on Betsy and Guy.
She managed a tight nod, then mocked, “That it is, Betsy, that it is.”
“See?” Betsy beamed, obviously pleased over Lily’s response, the mocking tone going completely over her head.
Lily smiled to herself as Guy drawled in a tired-sounding tone, “That’s lovely, Betsy, just lovely. Lucky Wilbur.”
“Oh him,” Betsy quickly dismissed with a wave of her manicured hand. Lily had noted earlier today, that Betsy was supporting silver nail polish.
