Between the Sheets, a short love story by Sky Taylor - Page 2 The mist suddenly stopped, Lori switching off the windshield wipers and checking the rear-view mirror for sight of another driver and finding none. The mirror had reflected light green eyes, thick red hair and a flawless complexion. The lime green sweater she was wearing complimented her pretty features and felt cozy against the invisible blanket of dampness surrounding her. As her attention returned to the road, she rounded a rather sharp mountain corner, a tan car suddenly emerging in front of her, weaving over the slick pavement. Before she could manage a complete stop, the driver slammed on the brakes, Lori's Mustang heading on a collision course with the tan car.
Instinct guiding her, she swerved to avoid contact, the Mustang sputtering then dying after colliding with the railing bordering the roadway. Lori was thrown into the wheel, some of her belongings joining her from the back seat, one case flying open and landing in her lap. Dazed, she scanned her green eyes swiftly over her small form, finding that she had been spared injury. The tan car was sitting straddled on the road, the driver nonchalantly taking a drink from a long-necked bottle wrapped in a brown paper bag. "Idiot drunk almost killed me!" she spat out, fighting with the door, then managing to spring it open. As she exited the Mustang, the remnants of the open case came out with her, falling to the wet ground below, the glass frame showcasing her vet degree shattering into a million tiny pieces.
