Internet profiles are hotbeds of romantic portfolios. A person can be anyone that they want to be on the Internet – rich, beautiful, handsome, brilliant, degreed and even young. What are some of the more alluring descriptions? Are these people real? Which descriptions gain the most attention? And should you give online dating a chance?

JOE: "Yes, darling, I own 5 mansions and a Geo. Really, I do."

SUSAN: "Oh, darling, so do I!!"

Before we begin, if you plan to search for a romantic partner via the Internet and interact with a bit of online dating, use honesty and just be yourself.

If you have to create a 'new' character for someone to like or fall in love with, they aren't actually falling in love with you – but with the character you've created. Now, on to the fun stuff!

Online Dating - Romantic Internet Profiles - Online Dating - Popular Screen Names

The first thing that sets the romantic stage is the screen name – the personal handle. Popular screen names for females include one or more of the following descriptive words: moon, petite, dancer, kiss, hot, lover, feisty, play, tease, strip, body, magic, star, heart, warm, angel, lady, candy, naughty, free, sea.

For the males: muscle, sly, gentleman, yours, love, big, handsome, rich, attorney, doc, play, fireman, cop, hot, golf, sport, lucky, French, bad, omen, lover, only, just, looking, tall, dark, stranger.

Online Dating - Occupation: Entrepreneur seems to be quite popular these days, as does attorney, doctor, policeman, and fireman. There's just something romantic about uniforms. And money.

Online Dating - Origin: Let's face it, foreign is in on the Internet. Aussies, the English, Irish and French are all head-turners! Foreign reeks romance.

Online Dating - Photos: If you've even visited a chatroom or made a friend or two on the Internet, you've probably exchanged photos. Did you ever get a photo of someone that just looked too good to be true? One that looked cosmetically incorrect compared to their stated age?

Online Dating - Descriptions are fun! One could sit for hours and read these thoughtful, sometimes-humorous renderings. These are a few that might ring a familiar chord:

'Eighty-three years old, loves to hand glide, play pool and bungie jump.'

'Thirty year old unhappily married guy. Likes to flirt! IM me if you dare.'

'Forty-nine year old female. Loves to go horseback riding, take romantic strolls on the beach, and stargaze. Favorite food is strawberries and whipped cream.'

Online Dating - Favorite Activities: Some of the alluring activities that people state include: horseback riding, owning and/or driving exotic cars, eating or cooking exotic foods, surfing, lifting weights, body building, wine tasting, building sand castles, watching sunsets/sunrises, star gazing, aerobics (it's the bouncing thing), collecting teddy bears, hand gliding, walking on the beach, swimming, skiing, mature photography, nature interests.

In closing, there's an old saying that holds true for of the Internet: Believe nothing that you hear and only half of what you see. Happy surfing, everyone and the best of luck should you give online dating a whirl!

Online Romance - Using the Internet to Find Romance

The Joys & Sometimes Hidden Dangers of  Meeting That Special Electronic Someone

The Internet can be a very good 'modem' for meeting people and one of the most enjoyable and effective means of locating that special someone in your life. It's a way to meet a person who shares similar interests, ideas and goals in life..

The romance chat rooms are just one mode that help centralize those interested in striking up romantic relationships. However, it's prudent to exercise caution when it's time to meet that special electronic someone.

The majority of the time, this format works very well in sorting out that special someone. However, there are times when individuals have become targets for danger, financial gain, or 'free' personal pleasure. Some things that may help you from falling into one of these pitfalls include:

- Avoid striking up a relationship with someone who is already committed to someone else, especially someone who is married.

- If you decide to meet, do so in a public place.

- Do not share financial information, including where you bank, what type credit cards you have, or how much money you have in your account(s).

- Until you feel comfortable with the individual, avoid providing too much personal information, such as where you work, where you live, your address and your phone number.

- In the initial stages, establish rapport of honesty.

- If your electronic interest exhibits a wide variance of emotions, such as intensive anger or malice, cease contact immediately. Mood swings are a key signal in identifying emotional instability. You may even feel a need to help the individual; however, in the majority of cases, it's best to suggest professional help.

- Pace your relationship. I know that it's difficult to take things slow in a new relationship, but try to enjoy the excitement. The rest will slowly come!

Some fun things that are worth discussing could be:

- Explore your interests with one another, including your goals and ambitions.

- Discuss your favorite movies, books, hobbies, recipes, restaurants, games, or television programs.

- Talk about your favorite colors, art, or activities.

- What do you expect in a relationship?

- What will you give in a relationship?

- What do you like to do in your free time?

There are many romantic opportunities on the net, such as 'friend' locators, romantic chat rooms, pen pal opportunities and member directories with detailed profiles.  Bottom line - enjoy finding romance on the net, but exercise caution.
