Moon, a love story by Sky Taylor - Page

"Very
sick to my tummy," she assured, feeling
around with her hands, trying to locate
Pardner. "Here boy," she called
out.
Jade paused,
then pulled the dog over to rest beside
her, guiding her hand to his fur.
"The
quicker that I get you situated, the quicker
I can tend to your dog," he told her,
the dog's presence seeming to soothe her
for the moment.
It would
be necessary to keep her heart rate as low
as possible until she could be transported
for medical attention. And the sooner,
the better.
She nodded,
not having energy to do much more as she
realized that Pardner was dead. The stranger
had simply been too kind to tell her otherwise.
And almost
instantly, the boot was cut away, an immense
feeling of pressure released although she
felt inclined to point out, "Those
cost me one hundred dollars, I'll have you
to know."
She heard
him grumble something, then her jeans were
suddenly being stripped away.
When she
went to protest, he shoved her hand away,
telling her, "Be still!"
"But-but
they cost thirty dollars," she protested,
not knowing why she was so concerned about
the cost of everything right now, particularly
when she'd probably be buried in them -
directly beside Pardner.
