Moon, a love story by Sky Taylor - Page

Over the
course of the next several minutes, the rattlesnake kept striking at Pardner, pushing
him back, the dog narrowly missing being
bitten again.
And as the rattlesnake held
its ground, the two of them moved closer and closer
to where Savannah had taken refuge.
Imprisoned
by the venom, she watched through her blurred
daze as the snake lunged, Pardner jumping
to one side, the rattlesnake in mid-air, raining
down onto Savannah.
She screamed,
the sound of a rifle ricocheting through
the area, the rattlesnake shattering into
a thousand pieces.
The sound
of spurs jingled through the distance, a
deep male voice grabbing her undivided attention
as he asked, "You okay, little lady?"
Through her
daze, she made out the shape of a man, his dark
hair swooped back and hidden by a light-colored
cowboy hat.
"Please,
my dog," she stammered, trying to locate
Pardner.
"He's
fine," Jade lied, not knowing the condition
of the dog as it appeared to be laying dead to
the world on the scorching bald earth.
Removing
his bandana, he probed, "Are you nauseated?"
Obviously, her vision was impaired
or she would have seen the dog.
