Jezzy’s only flaw was the ill-effects that Father Time had rendered upon her ageing body. And we’d all get there if we lived long enough.
Even so, she was one heck of a great cook. She had taken every blue ribbon at the county fair for apple pie over the last ten years he’d known her. And her humble hobby farm remained in impeccable order - her animals were plump and healthy.
Wait a minute. HER animals?
He was still rooted in a mud-pit of uncomfortable thoughts when Jezzy informed, “Daffney’s in the barn with Angel.”
“Uh hum. Our milk cow. Just got her,” Jezzy informed without pausing from her knitting, Rance cocking his head sideways as he tried to determine what the woman was knitting. Good grief! The knit-work looked like a bridle of sorts. Perhaps for her new pony, he went on to silently mock. What next? A knitted saddle and stirrups?
“Isn’t that a coincidence?” Rance mocked in a slow drawl as he rectified his head stance. “The same day I lose a milk cow, your barn suddenly contains one.”
