He didn't have a clue which horse had taken the ribbon, but as Kayla jumped out of her seat and began jumping excitedly up and down, he assumed that Camilla had won. "I knew she would win!" Kayla shouted, looking at Jordan with bright eyes and wanting nothing more than to fall into his arms and celebrate with a kiss. After the show was over they made their way back into the stable yards, Jordan preparing to load the Appaloosas they had brought to the show. "I suppose that I'll see you in the morning," he told Kayla, feeling rather sick to his stomach, knowing that she would be spending a night of celebration in the arms of man who didn't give a damn about her. "You're not coming back to the ranch house after you tend to the Appaloosas?" Kayla asked, her spirits falling. She had planned on sharing the evening with him for they had great cause to celebrate. They had only seized the ribbon through a joint effort. Without Jordan, the ranch would be nothing - and she would be nothing. She was still antsy as he had not agreed to her suggestion of partnership. "I'll be there but you've plans to see Rowdy tonight, right?" he asked, trying to appear disinterested and probably failing. Surely she could glimpse the misery in his eyes. Even the big win hadn't churned excitement. "Now what would I want with that drifter?" she asked, a bit taken aback that he had assumed her to be on that level.
